The Dreamer a short documentary film
The Dreamer”
a short documentary film of Uji Hahan Handoko on his comission work for Bazaar Art Pacific Place Jakarta 2012.

“as long as I know an artwork will only stop or end on the process of documentation”
-MPVK-
Started at the end of 2010, I decided to make a documentary film which focused on youth culture theme, especially on skateboarding and contemporary art scenes in Yogyakarta Indonesia.
My big idea on this project was started from a statement said “as long as I know an artwork will only stop or end on the process of documentation” that was from Marc Philip Van Kempen quotes, he was an artist from Holland who did residency program at Cemeti Art House Yogyakarta.
You could not look the process of how an artist make the artwork from the beginning until they show the artwork on the exhibition, the exhibition was not an everlasting show, that was just temporary show. After that you could not see the artwork at all, you only see the documentation at the catalog, blog reviews, news, website, etc. besides if you are a rich person, you could buy the artwork and collect them just for your self.
So from that idea, i decided to make a documentary film about one of young and talented artist from Yogyakarta named “Uji Handoko Eko Saputro”. Hahan, as Uji Handoko is known, is one of the emerging “celebrated” artists of his generation. He graduated from the graphic arts department of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI), Yogyakarta, Hahan has made a name for himself not only as a visual artist, but also as a singer in a few bands, thus raising his profile. He is also known for his amusing expressions and distinctive fashion style, all apparently much inspired by Andy Warhol.
On this project Hahan makes an experimental commission artwork for one of the Biggest Art Fair in Indonesia. The art fair held on a very luxurious mall in Jakarta called Pacific Place. He makes an extraordinary hand-made balloon to fill the big space on the art fair.
The Dreamer means that Hahan as the artist take position as an ordinary people who look at the Pacific place as the very luxurious mall which many big branded thing sell there, like Loius Vitton brand, Hugo Boss, Cavali, Canali, Zara, etc. Hahan only could dream and hopes he could reach all the perfectly images which sell at that Mall, like diamond, jewelry, shiny shoes, bags, etc.
I started this project at the early of June, which started from discussion with the main subject ‘Hahan’, and started to take footage of the process at the middle of June at Yogyakarta. Now at the last of July the artworks were already installed at the art fair, but from the beginning until now we have got so many problems.
On this film will shows how was the process of an artist make an extraordinary artwork for the public space on a mall, how was the making process, the idea, the technique, the problem and also the fun time how was the artwork and the film was made until the production process end.
